When choosing between a PE or PVC Christmas tree, you can consider things like appearance, cost, and safety. Here's our guide:
Appearance
PE trees are generally considered more realistic than PVC trees. PE trees are injection molded from real trees, resulting in 3D branches with needles that are more life-like than PVC needles. PVC trees are made from sheets of PVC that are pressed together, and the needles are flat and modeled after natural trees.
Cost
PVC trees are generally less expensive and more lightweight than PE trees.
Safety
PE and polypropylene (PP) are generally safer than PVC because they have less chance of lead contamination and fewer additives like phthalates.
Durability
PE is very durable and has a longer lifespan than PVC. It is strong, abrasion resistant, UV resistant, and not easily broken down by bacteria.
Sustainability
PE is a thermoplastic that can be melted down and reused, making it a more sustainable choice than PVC.
Combination
Some trees use a combination of PE and PVC. PE is used on the tips of the tree, while PVC is used as a filler. This means the tree can be realistic, be lightweight and remain at a good price. We say, PE expensive, PVC cheap, PE/PVC a good middle ground.
